**Their travels bring them back to the cliff overlooking the ruined coastal city. Though it was the first visit for one of their party members - Miku, whom they'd met back at Kaito's home city. Since she acted so young and carefree, Kaito had tried to make their trip over as fun and happy as possible. But now that they were here, with the ghost town in sight, Kaito's smile sobered. This wasn't just a long camping trip. They had to get serious.

He shoved his hands in his pocket as he stared down on it. They'd probably want to pick up the supplies they weren't able to take last time. And more importantly, he really hoped that the boats in the harbor were seaworthy. The knowledge that their radio was in English was an excellent lead, but it meant that they had to get off of this island.**

What are you doing up there?! [She calls up to the idiot. Is it another merman?] Are you even allowed? Come back down!

**he's rubbing his head and getting back up, confused as hell**

Back DOWN? That's the middle of the ocean-

**he pulls himself up to look back down, peering**

Duh! [She's putting her hands on her unseen hips. Huffing a bit, she dives down to swim and pop up closer to the boat.]

You doofus! You're gonna get in trouble! [Forget about the fact that she's even here in the first place. She wanted to discover this thing herself! He's totally stealing her thunder, here!]

**GAH noise when she goes under, seriously what, you're going to DROWN, kid. Oh right, this kind of isn't the time to argue, huh**

I-I'll go get a life ring!

A what? [She huffs, throwing her hands in the air.] Ugh, nevermind!

[And she goes under again.]

**he did not hear that since he was running around the ship. Soon a lifesaver is tossed over the side of the ship to float around. He's nervous when he peers back over and there is no girl to be found though**

[wth is going on here, does KAITO have to smack someone.]

Are you okay? What's all the noise?

K-KAITO! **he looks over his shoulder, holding onto the lifesaver rope like aaaah omg**

There's a girl in the water!

...And she thinks I'M in trouble!

What? [He leans over the rail, only to see... nothing. He's squinting his eyes, everything. And he can't see a thing.

He slooooowly straightens up and gives Kaito a concerned look.]

Are you sure?

She was there...! I could hear her...

[deteriorated]

[Was Kaito feeling well? He knew humans were somewhat susceptible to 'cabin fever', but it hadn't even been that long. Maybe the man was sick? KAITO resisted the urge to feel Kaito's forehead for a fever. Instead, he offered:]

Maybe I'll get a drink for you?

I-I don't know. I have to stay here with the life ring.

She can't have drowned yet... c-could she?

**honestly, he has no idea how long it takes to drown, since he has never been near a large body prior to this. Suddenly the ocean seems a bit frightening**

[Oooookay, if worst comes to worst he will use his unnatural robot-ness to pry Kaito away from the railing. Until then, he's going to go get a drink.]

It'll be okay. I'll be back, all right?

[If Kaito's still there by the time he comes back, it's confrontation time.]

[Guess who's appearing right next to the ring? Yep, Kaito's new friend! She squishes the ring with her hand, feeling it's texture.]

What's this supposed to be? [It's kinda stiff, actually.] Is it coral?

**And ... still not making any sense. Perhaps you have consumed a lot of salt water.**

Just grab onto it, I'll pull you up.

Up? [Her eyes go big.] That's how you got up?

[What is this. What is this temptation. She thinks the guy is a complete moron, but her curiosity is burning. Burning like water from the sea vents.]

Okay, I'll do it! [She wraps her arms around the weird thing, finding it awkward to hang onto because of the shape. She's got a firm grip on it, though.]

**and of course, as soon as he has her far enough out of the water, he sees her TAIL. And can't help but blink and pause** ...

**He keeps pulling, since she seemed to want to come up anyway - maybe if he gets a closer look, it won't actually BE a tail? Oh god he hopes he's not crazy**

[Aaaaaaaaaaaand she's up! When she's close enough, she grabs the railing and hoists herself over. This is harder than she thought it'd be; whatever-this-thing-is better be worth it! Without anything else to support her, she flops over the railing like... well, like a fish.]

**He at least attempts to catch her so she won't slam into the deck, but feeling scales... oh hell**
