Kaito's illness has gotten much worse due to his weakened immune system and sleeping outside all the time. But now, here they are. He finds himself staring up at the wall with mixed emotions of relief and dread. How in the hell are they going to sneak in?**

Well, I guess he really knew his stuff. You must be the brains of the group, aren't you?

Yeah, you're right. I wonder what that says about the group, huh?

[She's just teasing, really. By now she's a little more comfortable around the little look-alike, so she returns her attention to Kaito.]

The other guy said your father gave him to you. That's why you left?

O-oh.... yeah.

Naomi, I think there are people still alive outside of these walls. Another city. Dad gave me little Kaito and a... [he knew it was a radio by now, but she didn't, probably] ...singing metal box, with words in a strange language. It has to be transmitting from somewhere.

A singing metal box? And people?

Have you seen them? Were they out there?

I haven't found them yet... but I did find KAITO, and that's important to me too.

Why? Was he by himself?

Yeah, he was. For as long as we've been inside this wall, maybe more.

[emptyseat]

What do you mean? That's impossible!

[futureforbirds]

No, just terrible.

He's like little Kaito. Not human - and that's why he was left alone.

...you're kidding.

[She looks really surprised to hear this. Mekaito was believable, but KAITO? That would mean that he was way more complicated than the little one. Is that even possible, with the forbidden technology?]

He can't be, he looks just like another person. He acts like another person. How can he not be one?

I think that too, I do a lot. I don't know how they could accomplish such a thing, because it's over my head...

But a long time ago, humanity had all kinds of technology. This city just kept us in the dark.

[She takes a moment to think about this. As impossible as it sounds, it's probably better for her to go with it and sort it all out later.]

That means he's from before the war, right? He's really that old?

How'd you find out he wasn't human?

... Yeah, I guess he is pretty old. **he'd never really thought about how old that would make KAITO, but an estimate would put him in his 40s or 50s? Old enough to be his father. Odd thought.**

I found out because KAITO told me. He was surprised to find out that I was human; he believed we had gone extinct before we met.

That's...

[She doesn't know what to say.]

So people really did die off. I thought it was just a scary story they kept telling us.

But the world outside of the walls is real. There's flowers and ... and birds, and all kinds of things. I think that nature is healing.

[emptyseat]

You got to see them all? Were they just like the pictures in the books?

[futureforbirds]

I ... don't think I've seen everything from the books, but the things I saw, well, they were better.

[She stood there in thought.]

It sounds nice... but wasn't it dangerous? There's gotta be a reason why they said we can't go out anymore.

We didn't run into much trouble, actually.

I was thinking that maybe they don't know what's out there any more, or perhaps they're afraid that if they go back out, they'll get greedy again and we really will go extinct... the society we have going on in the walls is rigid and has kept us alive. Maybe they are wary to let go of it.

[emptyseat]

Yeah, but, look at us. We're missing out on so much stuff, if it's as good as you're saying.

And the town's growing. The population went up, you know? We might grow bigger than the walls. What then?

[futureforbirds]

I... I don't know.

I thought maybe if I could find the city the music comes from, that I'd find some answers.

[emptyseat]

But you came back, so I guess you didn't find it?

...are you going back out again?

[futureforbirds]

I came back because I got sick while being a geeky derp and choking myself on dust for hours reading books searching some ruins. I'm not giving up.
