**After the library of doom made Kaito cough his lungs out, our Kaito Team has decided to go back to the city behind the wall. Kaito's illness has gotten much worse due to his weakened immune system and sleeping outside all the time. But now, here they are. He finds himself staring up at the wall with mixed emotions of relief and dread. How in the hell are they going to sneak in?**

**Kaito hadn't paid attention to the pictures in his house for years. The one by the door was the only one he'd really kept hanging - he didn't remember the people in the photos, they'd been dead for so long. He had always felt detached from the images. But ever since his father gave him Mekaito and the radio, he'd been thinking about him more and more. Maybe this time, it would be different - though he was primarily doing it for KAITO, who apparently liked to look at pictures**

**He is confused by the look in KAITO's eyes.**

Really, it's okay. I was just looking at that one, since it was here.

[It was just the one picture that caught his interest, anyway. The man in particular... he glanced back at it.]

**Huh, well... He supposed sitting around looking at albums was sort of a girly thing to do anyway.

He follows KAITO's line of vision and takes another look at the picture.**

[Still watching, but a little nervous since Kaito was here.]

That's you when you were a child, right?

Yeah, it is. I think I was nine or ten here.

[deteriorated]

That man is your father?

[futureforbirds]

**he pauses.**

I guess.

I never saw much of him, even when he was alive. My memories of him are really hazy, but... that's probably who this is. Yes.

[He's surprised to see that Kaito can't quite remember his father.]

You're not sure? Why?

[futureforbirds]

I don't know... I was pretty angry at him for not being around, so maybe I blocked him out. It hurt too much back then.

What happened?

Sorry, I can't really answer that question. I was too young to understand, and then he died, so I never did. The adults had enough on their plate, so I didn't want to bother them...

Anyway, that was a long time ago. I got over my anger already.

Nah, I don't mind. We're friends, so you have a right to know about my past. I just can't remember it well.

Do you feel sad when you can't remember?

These days, sort of. Like I said, I was happy to forget before, but...

It turns out he was a better man than I thought, and he left me a future, so I am grateful to him. I feel bad that I can't... even remember what kind of a person he was, besides small details.

Like he gave me a bird for a present, I really liked it.

And uh... I remember a little about the way he used to talk, but that's because I have a letter from him. When I read it I can hear his voice.

[A bird... he can't help but smile at that. His Master used to like birds as well. Blue birds and white flowers -- the same ones that returned when the humans left.]

It was really emotional. I think he wrote it before he died... maybe he knew.
