**So, Kaito, KAITO and Mekaito have been traveling for a short while now. Mekaito is still playing the radio because I guess it has an infinite life cheat or something and trailing behind the others, waiting for commands and giving the occasional input. Kaito is roaming about, staring at all of the pretty flowers and random wildlife with amazement. It's overwhelming compared to the bleakness of his hometown.**

[Hmmm. In that case, it was probably better to go by difficulty. KAITO tried to think. Did he know something that was a good 'starter' song? Maybe like a children's song?]

How about... [He thought for a moment more, before he began to sing his half of a duet.]

... [he nods and tries to copy the sounds - he repeats the lyrics but the rest he sort of mixes up and it sounds chaotic. Might need to introduce the concept of notes to him.]

[P-pfffft, KAITO hadn't actually meant for the little 'bot to copy him already. But it's an adorable attempt, really. Especially the Chinese half - if Mekaito attempted to sing it.]

Singing is like talking, [he explains,] but with different pitches and counts. When we talk, we just 'say' the words. But when we sing, the words are drawn out and have a different sound.

Like this: [He tries again, this time saying the lyrics to the song. Then, he sings it.] Do you hear the difference? You can start with just one sound, if you want. Try to say "Ah" and sing "Ah".

[He did! Mekaito's not the sort to half-ass anything.]

Ah.

[thinks. You draw it out? You change the pitch? Ok, let's try.]

[KAITO's actually pretty surprised it came out so well. Pleasantly surprised, of course. His expression is bright as he praises the younger robot.]

That's right! You can try a different pitch, if you want. Then, when you sing them in a row, they make a song!

Okay.

**he's not doing it immediately though. It took thinking to make that one note sound right. This doesn't come naturally to him, so it will take effort to make a song. For now, he tries to see how many noises he can make without trying to string them together. Each one takes consideration, so it's like he's doing Do, Re, Mi but reaaally slooowly. 8D**

[KAITO remains silent and just listens with a smile. He actually... he actually feels really proud about this, about Mekaito's baby steps of progress. It's a feeling of accomplishment that he hadn't felt in a while.]

... **well, he's made all of the sounds he can think of. So he just stands there for a minute, thinking of how to put them together. He has NO idea how to compose a song, of course**

.... This is hard.

I guess it can be. [Not really for KAITO, since composing songs was out of his range of programming. It was one thing he never had to concern himself with.] My master used to get frustrated sometimes when he was stuck.

You can just copy songs, for now. The one before, remember? [He sings the first (easy) half of the song, slowly, so that Mekaito can hear the notes clearly.]

**he listens intently. Since KAITO's going slowly, he is able to remember it - mostly just because the song is repetitive though. Yay for low difficulty levels.**

... Did I do it?

[He nods.]

Yes, you did! That was really good for your first time.

[well, computer powered memories are pretty good, vocaloid or not. So he can do with intellect what others would do with intuiton.]

Yes, really! [He ruffles Mekaito's hair.] You were built really well. Maybe your master would like to hear your sing, too.

**he smiles a bit at the hair ruffle and KAITO's enthusiasm**

I could practice. I could show Master when he's done.... studying.

[deteriorated]

I'm sure he'll like it.

[Which reminds him:] Do you know why he's studying?

No. He didn't tell me.

[deteriorated]

Hmm... he didn't tell me, either. [And if there were any hints, KAITO obviously missed them. He looked down at Mekaito.]

Have you been with him long?

[abovethewall]

... Before we met KAITO ... umm ...

[Mekaito does some counting. There was a large gap of time in between when Kaito sent him over the wall, and then he came back and he found KAITO]

... maybe two weeks or more.

[He's surprised.] That's not very long.

It isn't?

I was only with the first master for about two days.

[deteriorated]

The first...? [Ah, right, he was created by the human Kaito's father.] Oh.

[And then, curiosity:] What was he like? Your first master.

[abovethewall]

He taught me a lot of things. I had to listen to him very carefully. He was fast and in a hurry. And then when he was done teaching me, I went to sleep for a long time.

[That must've been when--] Were you scared?

[abovethewall]

No.... he was fast, but he was nice. Like today's Master.
